Service Showrooms Paris
The bathroom as an extension of the living space
For many years now, the internationally renowned bathroom manufacturer Duravit has been welcoming visitors to its Salon d’Eau in Paris. The showroom has now been completely refurbished and enlarged to around 300 square metres, plenty of space to demonstrate the latest trends in bathroom design and to permit visitors to experience them in a realistic manner. A tour of the premises when they opened on 23 October 2008 with CEO Franz Kook and sales director Philippe Soiron clearly illustrated the transformations taking place in the bathroom today and its development into an extended living space.“Today, people are looking for more from a bathroom than a utilitarian room for bathing, washing, showering or brushing their teeth. It is becoming a living space in its own right that offers modern citizens a refuge from the stress of everyday life,” said Kook at the opening. The bathroom can function as a refuge, however, only if it is part of an all-embracing concept that includes all conceivable aspects and melds them into a composite whole. Customers seek an “integrated and pleasant atmosphere, the right mixture of elegant designer products, high-quality materials, light, colour and multifunctionality.”. Bathroom installations today are no less complex than other living area features. Welcome to the new bathroom.
For Duravit this means that furniture in choice wood tones is now finding its way into the former “wet room” and endowing it with natural warmth. At the same time, furniture acts as a connecting element and gives the room its own special character: washbasins have a furniture trim, the shower tray has matching wood panelling and the bathtub becomes a piece of furniture in its own right through the addition of wood-panelled drawers, shelves or trays. This trend can be clearly seen in the 2nd floor range in the showroom and in the Sundeck bathtub, whose wood panelling and cover enable it to function not only as a piece of furniture but also as a lounger.
According to Kook, light and colour are still all too often treated as an afterthought in the bathroom, where we begin and end the day. The way in which the latest lighting and electronic technology can enhance the mood in a bathroom is particularly well demonstrated in the Salon d’Eau in the mirrorwall concept: at the touch of a button the stage is set for dramatic lighting effects, from sunny yellow and soothing red to mysterious blue or a whole rainbow of changing colours. The emotive mood created in this way offers the perfect setting for spa products such as whirlpools or multifunctional showers. More and more people are seeking to enjoy the remedial and energy-giving experience of a spa hotel in the privacy and intimacy of their own home.
The Salon d’Eau contains a multifunctional shower and a Starck X bathtub for visitors to try out. Maximising wellness in a minimum of space is possible with the Blue Moon tub, which measures just 1.40 x 1.40 m but nevertheless contains a complete whirlpool system with 35 nozzles. The Seadream bathtub combines luxurious bathing with practical showering. Altogether, the showroom demonstrates unequivocally that shortage of space is no longer an obstacle to transforming the bathroom into a retreat in which the occupants feel good and can relax mind and body and escape from the stress, noise, tension and rush of everyday life – in harmonious surroundings that appeal not to the rational and practical side but to the senses and emotions.
The Salon d’Eau offers not only a representative cross-section of the latest bathroom trends but also seeks to spotlight the bathroom as a concept from a number of different angles. “Our designer products are aimed at a target group with discerning tastes that call for professional counselling and bathroom planning,” says Philippe Soiron, Duravit sales director in France. With this in mind, Duravit offers customers at the Salon d’Eau not only advice but also a free bathroom planning service.
Customers can register at any time at the Salon d’Eau for a bathroom planning session. An interview with a Duravit planner is arranged to discuss habits and personal bathroom preferences. Having determined the layout of the bathroom, the planner can devise an individual plan including free-hand colour drawings and parts lists, which is then posted to the customer, who can then go with it to the dealer of his choice. The advice and planning services are normally completed there, often together with the wholesaler, after which the dealer can organise the professional installation of our products. The bathroom planning service thus offers a valuable support not only for customers but also for dealers and trade professionals. For this target group, Duravit has a further special service at the Salon d’Eau: apart from the display, there is also a special section devoted to training, where bathroom specialists, architects and planners can take part in intensive sessions covering all aspects of the bathroom.
